ASPHER CCP discussed at the Public Health Careers Panel at University of Edinburgh
05 mar 2025

On 3 March 2025, athe ASPHER CCP Fellow took part as a panelist in a public health careers talk for Master's students at the University of Edinburgh. The event, aimed at supporting students in navigating diverse career paths within public health, featured insights from professionals across academia and practice.

The ASPHER CCP Fellow shared reflections on their own career journey and offered advice on how emerging public health professionals can build meaningful networks. Emphasising the value of reaching out, they encouraged students to connect with as many academics and practitioners as possible, noting that “you never know what can come out of a simple email." This message resonated strongly with students considering their next steps after graduation.

As part of the discussion, the Fellow also presented key elements of their work on the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control’s (ECDC) Core Competencies in Applied Infectious Disease Epidemiology, which they contributed to between 2020 and 2022. This work plays a critical role in strengthening workforce capability in infectious disease response and surveillance across Europe.

In addition, the Fellow introduced the ASPHER Core Curriculum Programme, highlighting its vision to standardise and elevate public health training across the European Region. Their involvement in both the ECDC and ASPHER initiatives provided students with a real-world perspective on how competency-based education frameworks can shape public health systems and careers.

The event was part of the University of Edinburgh’s ongoing efforts to connect students with public health leaders and provide practical insights into the field’s evolving opportunities.
